When we started to look at bringing Pin Drop back to life, we were inheritting over 10 years of code. As you can imagine from a code perspective, this is pretty messy. Everyone's data was held locally on their devices, so if they lost their phone or the app stopped working, that was it. We wanted to move it to a cloud-based infrastructure that would allow you to access your data easily and backup your data so the information that was important to you, was always safe and secure.
In 2025 we decided that the old design and architecture needed to be redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up. The resulting work is what we've creatively named "v6".
As with all things new (ourselves included), they can take a little bit of time to get used to. Muscle memory is a real thing and with new features and layout, it can be slower to find what you need at first. Please do give it a little bit of time and, as with all these things, give us your feedback so we can get rid of bugs and improve things we might have missed.
The most obvious change is the design of the app and website. These have been rebuilt from scratch. Hopefully you'll be able to see some serious speed improvements here.

We've made the switch from Apple to Google Maps. The main reason for this is the enhanced satellite cover and improved clarity on high zoom levels, allowing for more accurate pin placement. We'll be monitoring how this goes but we're hoping you'll find it's a better experience.
You'll notice that the entire app has had a rethink / refresh. There's plenty more to come!
As well as the new design we're adding a lot of new features, and removing some too. You can do a full feature comparison here.

You may notice that lists has been depricated in their current form. Any existing lists will be changed to tags of the same name and can be found in the 'organised' section. If this was a collaborative list, you will only have pins that you added to the original list here.
If you are on a plan that doesn't include a feature it will now be clearly labelled for you.
We realised that we hadn't touched the web app for a number of years and it was about time it had a refresh to be more in line with what we envisaged for the future. As with any website that's left untouched for a long period of time, bugs creep in, so hopefully any experience you have on the website will be a positive one from now on.
We will continue to improve, add to and evolve the website alongside the apps. If you have any thoughts on how it could be better for you, or if you're having any issues, our inbox is always open.
